| Scout Meeting 24th May 2010 |
Hi All,
On Monday 24th May we took a large majority of our Scouts on a trip to the fire station in Erdington.
The aim of our visit was to fulfil most of the requirements of the Fire Safety activity badge.
During our time at the station we were given a talk about how the fire service is organised and operated and how they can be contacted in the event of an emergency.
We were also given a briefing on the dangers of fire at home and at camp and the precautions that should be taken.
We were then shown a 'before & after' scenario of a typical room in a house where the Scouts were asked to point out the possible causes of fire.
We also talked about the importance of fitting smoke alarms and making sure that they are always working.
Afterwards the Scouts were treated to a tour of the station before going outside for some hands on experience of the fire fighting equipment and an inspection of the fire engine.
The Scouts were allowed to try their hand at using the hose and there was a race to see who could put on all of the fire fighting equipment in the shortest time!
The Scouts had a fantastic evening and they will all be receiving their badges in the very near future.
We would like to take this opportunity to thanks all of the firemen & fire officers at Erdington fire station for making the visit possible.
