Stockland Green 8th Feb 2010

Stockland Green 08/02/10

Hi All,

On Monday 8th Feb we started our 3rd session of badgework at the Stockland Green Technical College.

This week part of the Troop carried on with their Powerpoint presentations and image editing techniques as part of the IT badge, whilst the other part of the Troop were tasked with cooking a 3 course meal in order to fulfil the requirements of the Chef badge.

The first course was a very healthy vegetable soup made up of celery, carrots & tomatoes. The second course consisted of a choice of either chicken and pasta in a cheese sauce or chicken and pasta in a tomatoe sauce with pesto! And finally the last course was a very nice chocolate cake with a dairy milk chocolate topping and a Lindor chocolate middle, delicious!

Please click on the above pic to see more images taken during the cooking session.

The chef's did very well considering they only had an hour to prepare, cook, serve and wash up!

More reports to follow...

All the best,

Air Rifle Shooting 07/02/10

Air Rifle Shooting 07/02/10

Hi All,

We held another air rifle shooting session for the Scouts at the Sutton Coldfield Rifle & Pistol Club on Sunday 7th Feb, as part of their Master at Arms badge.

During this session the Scouts got chance to try several scoped rifles and were scored against their 'groupings' of shots as well as shots on target.
They also swapped the conventional targets for some 'olympic' style ones!

Several of the Troop have now qualified for their badges and they were presented with their award by Charles and Mike from the club.

Please click on the image above to see more pictures taken during the event.

We will be holding another session shortly in order to get the remainder of the Troop through the badge.

We also hope to introduce another batch of Scouts to the club later on this year.

Many thanks to Charles & Mike at the club for all their time and effort in organising the sessions.

YIS,

Adam

Wood Badges

Wood Badges

Hi All,

I am pleased to announce that Emily and Carl have successfully achieved their Wood Badge.

The Wood Badge is a Scouting program and Award for adults in the Scout Associations around the world. The Wood Badge course is designed so that adult Scouters can learn; in as practical a way possible, the skills and methods of Scouting. On completion, participants are still awarded the beads to recognize the significant achievement in leadership and direct service to young people, and to welcome them to membership of 1st Gilwell Park Scout Group.

Our thanks goes to Dave Evans & Alan Underwood, who made the trip specially to our session at Stockland Green in order to present Emily and Carl with their badge and also the special 1st Gilwell Park Scout Group necker.

This now means that both Emily, Carl & myself have all received our Wood Badges, which is the highest level of adult Scout Leader training available.

Achieving such an award emphasises our committment to the Group and the dedication we have to our Scout Troop.

We would like to thank Dave Evans & Alan Underwood for their role in our training, and for offering us their support and guidance throughout.

We would also like to wish Jason, our Young Leader, the best of luck as he embarks on his Leadership training this year.

Well done Emily and Carl!

Yours in Scouting,

Adam

Stockland Green 01/02/10

Hi All,

On Monday 1st Feb we started our second session of badgework at the Stockland Green Technical College. We split our Troop up into 3 sections in order to cover 3 activity badges; IT Stage 1 & 2 and the Chef badge. The staff at Stockland Green were well organised and our Scouts got stuck into the activities with a great deal of enthusiasm. The IT section are busy producing some very professional looking Powerpoint presentations and the Chefs are preparing their menu's and will begin cooking next week. I will be posting some pictures of their fine efforts over the next few weeks. We would like to thank the staff at Stockland Green for welcoming us into their premises and for helping us to fulfill the requirements of the activity badges.

All the best,

The Scout Leaders
