As you will know from the previous report from me, our funding appeal was most successful and together with the remarkable amount raised by Alan and his Scouts, we certainly achieved the amount we needed - and I am quite sure that there is more to come!
Many of the donations received were from ‘Old Scouts’ and friends of the Group and here are some extracts from some of the letters received
I enclose a cheque for £10 . This is on behalf of David and Gary, former Scouts in the 60’s

It is good to see that the 2nd Wylde Green Group is still thriving. I had many happy years as both a Scout and as a Leader.

I am impressed with the devotion of you and your colleagues are making to improve the upbringing of young people in today’s society.
Anon - previously a Scout of a Group in Sutton Coldfield
My son Adrian gained a great deal of fun, adventure, character-building opportunities and friendships from being a member of the Group. I recall with a smile the day he received his Chief Scout Award from Audrey Higginson. I also remember the young lads who retuned from camps exhausted and dirty but always smiling. In recognition of all that has been done by a committed Group in the past and in support of such provision for young people in the future, I am happy to make a small donation to your appeal.

I had very many happy hours during the time I spent as a member of the 2nd Wylde Green Scouts, Senior Scouts and The Rover Crew. I well remember our hut burning down and after the fire, we held our meetings in the Emmanuel Church Hall (and shared a Christmas Party with the Girl Guides!). I also remember saving my pocket money to buy wooden blocks for the new floor of the headquarters and writing my name on a plan of the floor showing which blocks I had helped to buy.
Then there were the Flower Shows, The Gang Shows, The Christmas Carol Services and the Summer Fairs - so many memories, far too many to recall here.
Like many of my contemporaries as we grew up, we progressed through the various sections, we involved our girl friends (not always appreciated at Group Leadership level) and many of us married those girlfriends and went on to produce children who joined the Group and this was certainly true of my family. We enjoyed every minute that we have been members of the Group - and to this day, I am still involved in Scouting being the District Commissioner for Merionydd.
Phil Baker was a very good role model for me, not just a wonderful Scouter but also a man of great integrity and a good friend.
I wish everyone at the Group good health, long life and the joy of Scouting.

After reading these letters, Alan Underwood (Skip) said, “It was heart-warming to read that there is so much support out there for what we are doing”
I am quite sure and trust that you share these sentiments.
