The Bone Trophy 2008

Cubs Logo

Adam Edwards, Jacob Dalton, Jacob Banks and Gabriel Edwards all took part in the Bone Trophy competition for the 6th. This competition is very important in the Scouting Calendar with East and West district. The competition has been held every year since 1937. The day started early at 9.30 with inspection. We got 17 out of 20 for this base. There were other mases from Rocket Launchers to Origami.

The children has a really enjoyable time and came an amazing 5th out of 17. This was an excellent effort and we were were only 40 points behind the overall winners.

Thanks lads and well done.

Roof and Refurbishment Project - March Update from Skip

BuildingHi All

I’m pleased to report that the building work is proceeding at a tremedous pace and they are well ahead of schedule. The weather was our major concern because they would not have worked on the roof in wet weather. We were blessed with several days of sunny dry weather right at the start and they cracked on and completed it on time. They were working so fast that we nearly missed our photo opportunity for the localpress appeal. There was only one day they couldn’t work because the roof was too icy. While they were up there they also lowered and capped the chimney.
Meanwhile the glaziers installed the new double glazed windows so after the first 2 weeks we were fully weather proof and work could start on the internals.

Electricians did the first fix and the joiners fitted the studding for the wall insulation and as we atand at the moment they have relined and plastered the walls , fitted tha dado rail, fitted new cisterns in the loos, replaced the barge boards and installed new guttering. New ceilings have been fitted in the Den kitchen and Loos.

An invoice for £53,000 has been received for the work so far, so you can see how much has been done.
So we are now really into the finishing stages of final fix on the electrics, painting and laying floor coverings.
This all means that they should finish about 4 weeks ahead of schedule.

Below find 2 external shots of the HQ showing the new roof and windows, and some indoor shots.

Best regards

Update from the Group Chairman

BuildingOur Contractors and their Sub-Contractors, having had the benefit of a long period of dry weather, are well on with the refurbishment work having initially 'stripped out' then proceeded without delay to have the new roof installed closely followed by the fitting of new double glazed PVC windows. The electrician then completed his 'first fix' They then lined the Hall with insulation material, covered it with 3/4" ply then 1/2" plasterboard and it is now plastered with a dado rail all the way round. New suspended ceilings have been installed to the toilets, kitchen and Den and they have even done a bit of plumbing work.

All this is covered by their items 1 - 12 and 14 and if you refer to this chart you will see that they are well ahead.

And it feels warm already and it looks great!

On the matter of fund-raising, we are now past £5000 thanks to the many donations received, some following the articles in the local media but mostly as a response to my letter of appeal and mainly from current and past members of The Supporters Club as well as Scouts of some year's ago. We have also received a donation from the Keeo's employer and, following an initial 'sponsored shoeshine', £60 from (the parents of) Beavers.

I am sure there is more to come.
