2nd Practise Hike on the Leicestershire Round

Practise Hike Sun 27th Sept 09

On Sunday 27th Sept we took our team of 5 Challengers to Leicestershire for a 12.5 mile hike around 'Battle of Bosworth' country, in preparation for the Expedition Challenge on 3rd-4th October.

Once again the Challengers were asked to navigate the route on their own and cook a meal on the way.

The weather was absolutely glorious for hiking and the team did very well with the distance and cooked an excellent meal of rice and pasta.

They should have no problem with the Challenge this weekend.

We finished up with a lovely fish & chip supper at the 'Batter of Bosworth' chip shop in Market Bosworth, to round off a perfect day.

Good luck to our Challengers this Saturday!

We will let you know how they get on.

Scout Meeting 28/09/09

Scout Meeting 28/09/09

Hi All,

On Monday night we taught the Scouts how to lay and light a fire, a skill that will be very useful on all the camps we will be going on.

However when we are on camp, the Scouts need to remember that they will have to collect the wood as well as chop it themselves first!

We also organised our troop into 4 Patrols, with Patrol Leaders & Assistant Patrol Leaders chosen to give our younger members the benefit of their experience.

Each Patrol managed to get a great fire going and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, especially when the marshmallows came out for toasting!

All the best,

1st Practise Hike in the Derbyshire Dales

Practise Hike Sat 19th Sept 09

Hi All,

Please click on the above image to see more pictures taken during our practise hike in the Derbyshire dales on Saturday 19th Sept.

This is our 1st practise session in preparation for the Expedition Challenge 2009 being held early in October.

We will be fielding a team of 5 in the Challenge this year, which is taking place in the beautiful setting of the Wye Valley.

The weather was perfect for walking, if a little warm, and the team coped admirably with all that was required of them.

A second practise hike is taking place this Sunday in the Leicestershire area.

I will keep you posted with our progress!

International Module Mon 7th Sept 09

Hi All,

Please click on the above image to see some more pics taken during our first Scout meeting back after the Summer holidays.

We made the evening a little bit special by holding a themed event, and the theme was SWEDEN!

This is because the 22nd World Scout Jamboree is being held in Kristianstad, Sweden, in 2011.

It was also part of Carl, Emily and myself's leadership training and we thought it would be a nice way of welcoming the new members to our troop (mainly from cubs), of which there are many!

We therefore had a fun evening of activities planned for the troop, which included some Swedish cuisine, Swedish games, speaking some Swedish language and a Swedish picture quiz, all to the sounds of ABBA in the background.

We also asked the Scouts to wear the colours of the Swedish flag, which are blue and yellow.

And yes, I wore some blonde plaits?!

Enjoy!

SUPPORTERS CLUB FLOWER SHOW 2009

The sun shone and the visitors came in good numbers to view the hundreds of exhibits displayed by members of the Supporters Club at the 63rd Annual Horticultural and Flower Show held at the HQ on Saturday 22nd August.

There were flowers to delight, floral displays to admire, vegetables of every size and hue which amazed, incredible handicrafts plus delightful cakes and jams to tempt the taste-buds!

Folks arrived, young and old, for an afternoon of pure delight taking great pleasure in viewing the exhibits, busying themselves with the purchase of raffle tickets as well as enjoying tea and buttered scones in the garden area.

Prizes were presented by local Councillors Robert Alden, Bob Beauchamp and Gareth Compton then followed the grand auction of many of the exhibited vegetables as well as some cakes and jams then the sale of exhibited flowers.

A truly spectacular occasion with a bonus of over £300 raised for Group funds.
