Rough Close Camp 09

Nights Away Camp 09

Hi All,

Please click on the above image to see more pictures taken during our Summer camp at Rough Close, Coventry.

Over the course of the weekend the Scouts put up a Patrol tent, a dining shelter, set up a cutting square and learned how to use axes and saws safely. They later collected and cut up wood for the camp fire which was lit every day.

The Scouts also did most of the food preparation and cooking and I have to say that the chicken fajitas were particularly tasty!

In their freetime the Scouts played football, cricket and we launched several types of rocket. They also enjoyed wandering off and exploring the campsite.

At night we played a wide game involving some very impressive glowsticks. See the video for some very impressive lightsabre action!

The weather was mixed and we managed to avoid the rain whilst putting up and taking down the tents, result!

The camp was also used as an assessment camp for myself, Adam, in order to gain my nights away permit.

I am happy to report that I passed and I should receive my nights away permit in September.

I would like to thank everyone who helped me achieve this award and to Dave Evans, for taking time out of his weekend to come and do the assessment.

I would also like to thank all the Scouts who participated in this event and their parents, who helped us with transport, etc.

We hope to be running another camping event in September.

Enjoy!

All the best,

Adam

Live the Magic 2009!

cu-cl-pos

Opening to fireworks and songs around the camp fire Live the magic 2009 began in earnest on Friday. On Saturday the cubs took part in craft activities and the samba band in the morning where they were visited by outgoing Chief Scout Peter Duncan. On Saturday afternoon the cubs enjoyed a program of international cooking where they made either pakora or American pancakes, trampolining and a spell on the bouncy castles. Water slides, archery and grass sledging awaited on Sunday. Despite the brief spells of rain, a good time was had by all.

Thanks to all the leaders and a special thanks to Chef Tic-tac for all his wonderful food!

Winners - Raft Race 2009

Raft Race 2009

Greetings Everyone!

Guess who are the winners of the Sutton Coldfield East & West District Scouts Raft Race 2009?

That's right, it's the 6th Sutton Coldfield East, our very own troop!

Reece, Jacob B, Lauren, Tom & Dominic got off to a flying start and created a massive lead which they maintained over the entire course.

The gap between 1st & 2nd place was so vast that we had time to lift our raft out the water & carry it halfway up the hard, take some photographs and partially dismantle it before 2nd place reached the finishing post!

In fact our troop cut through the water with such unbelievable ease that we are still looking for the hidden outboard motor!

Well done team, we are all very proud of you.

Many thanks to all those parents who offered their support and helped make this a day to remember, namely; Clare W, Mark & Sara A, Ian B, Clare H, Mike & Ginny A.
This is the 1st time we have won this event according to the names on the prize, an old wooden oar.

Also thanks to Dave our GSL, for his help & support on the day.

Needless to say, we will mount the trophy pride of place inside HQ!

All I can say is well done once again, to our brilliant raft building/raft racing winners 2009.

Best regards,

Adam

Live the Magic 2009

Live the Magic 2009

Hi All,

Please click on the above image to see some pictures taken during the 'Live the Magic 2009' weekend camp.

Over the course of the event our troop got the chance to take part in many activities including; kayaking, laser clay shooting, water rocket launching, zip wire, grass sledging, orienteering & radio orienteering, inflatables, parachute game, swamp crossing and many more.

Some of our troop also visited the radio shack on site and talked to a radio amateur located in Banbury on the 2 metre band!

On Friday night we all enjoyed a fantastic fireworks display and on Saturday night there was a street party and disco organised, although our troop preferred the freedom to enjoy the various playgrounds or play games on the big arena field. Frisby anyone?!

The weather was a mix of rain and glorious sunshine but nothing that deterred the troop from having fun.

I'm sure we will be attending this event again next year!

Best regards,

Skip & Adam
