Sponsored Shoe Shine - Monday 25th February

Beavers

Hi All

Please remember as many pairs of shoes as you can to be cleaned in an hour
and 15 mins.

Minimum payment £1 per shoe. Please please support this.

Leave the beavers with your shoes and their shoes and they will be returned at the end of the colony meeting squeaky clean (I hope).

A couple of shoe shine boxes will be round the room for you to put your hard earned pennies.

Spread the word.

Regards

Refurbishment Schedule

Building

A schedule of the building work taking place can be found here.

Skips "Buildings" Blog

BuildingBeavers and Cubs have tried out their new temporary accommodation and it all seems ok except the cubs hut had a leaky roof. It sounds like they need a new roof as well!

The builders moved in early Monday morning Feb 4th and skips were arriving at 7.45 when I got there for the first site meeting.

Just to recap on the work that we are having done. It all started with the roof – the concrete based roof panels were delaminating and needed to be replaced. The new roof will have a high insulation factor so it was considered that we should bring the rest of the building up to modern standards. The main works being carried out therefore are a new roof, new double glazed windows and new insulation on the walls. This together with a new heating system should make us more comfortable and more energy efficient.

First job for the builders was to cover and protect the floor and fireplace and then get on with stripping out wall and roof claddings. Attached you will find a Gant chart showing the various works being done and the programme for that work.

In this posting I have included some “before” pictures and every month after my site meeting I will bring you up to date with progress and “after” pictures.

Should anybody require further information please contact me.

A Big Thank You

Rummage SaleHi everybody

From not having enough, we very quickly went - following some a couple of 'creative' appeals - to having more rummage than we could fit on to all the tables we could muster!
We had an excellent 'sales team', mainly supporters together with Joan Bromwell on the Bric-a-Brac and Adam Hodson on the bookstall.
The sun shone in the morning and we had a very good crowd who did some great 'rummaging'
We acheived an amazing result, seemingly totalling £505. This once again exceeding by a considerable margin what we have done before (and further boosted by a £20 donation from Janet Davis, a long time supporter).

Here are some comparison figures

 Feb 08Mar 07
Bric-a-Brac£201£128
Rummage and entry£188£115
Books£44£21
Bucket£20£22
Teas£8£4
Rag Man£11£0
Donation£20
Other£13

To everybody who did help in any way, a 'ginormous' big Thank You!

And then by 4 o'clock we had finished the removal of all items from the kitchen, Hall and Annexe to the QM and HQ stores to allow the Contractors a clear start on Monday morning.

Their work should be finished by the end of April/beginning of May just in time for everybody to see the improvements at the next big fund-raiser, the Summer Fair at 2.00 pm on May 10th

See you there
